NC State will have a new starting Quarterback on Thursday night when Syracuse rolls into town. After starting the first 5 games, Redshirt Sophomore Matt McKay will head to the bench, and Redshirt Sophomore Bailey Hockman will get the starting nod.

Hockman came in against Florida State on the 4th offensive drive, and finished the game 21 of 40 for 208 yards and a touchdown (0 interceptions), before leaving the game on the final drive due to being dinged up.

“Bailey Hockman will start for us at quarterback. Devin [Leary], who also came in to the game at Florida State and did a good job, will have an opportunity. I feel like they are giving us more in the pass game.

I feel like Bailey came in the Florida State game and showed a lot of poise and guts. He came into that game and competed. Devin came in cold at the end and threw it around well. I was proud of those guys. Bailey and Devin handled their role and improved and improved in their roles and took advantage of the opportunity presented.

Those two guys give us a better shot with their arms right now.” (GoPack).

It was fitting that Hockman’s first significant playing time in college came against his former team. Hockman transferred to NC State from Florida State after his Freshman season.

Thursday will mark Hockman’s first career start.
