NC State vs. Syracuse: SERIES BREAKDOWN

Published

on

NC State will host Syracuse tonight in their ACC home opener at 8pm, marking the 13th time the two teams have met.

The Wolfpack have been dominant in the series dating back to 1972, winning 10 of the 12. As ACC opponents, NC State is 5-2 against Syracuse.

Syracuse’s first victory over NC State was in Wolfpack Head Coach Dave Doeren’s first season (2013). Ironically, Doeren got revenge, picking up his first career ACC victory over the Orange in 2014. Doeren is 4-2 against Syracuse.

Last year’s matchup was an offensive explosion, with the two teams combined for 1,102 yards of total offense. Wolfpack Quarterback Ryan Finley threw for a career-high 473 yards (4th highest in school history) and Wide Receiver Kelvin Harmon had 247 yards receiving, which was obviously his career high, and the 2nd highest single game total behind Torry Holt’s 255 (1998).

A few returning players played well against the Orange last year. Junior Wide Receiver Emeka Emezie had 4 receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown, and Redshirt Junior Tight End Cary Angeline had 2 receptions for 64 yards. Redshirt Senior Nickel Stephen Griffin had 7 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.
