Former NC State All-American Shortstop Trea Turner became the fourth former NC State baseball player to win a World Series tonight, as the Nationals defeated the Astros 6-2 in Game 7.

UPDATE: In the original post I said that Turner was the third former Wolfpacker, when in fact he’s the 4th. Pitcher Tim Stoddard was a member of the Baltimore Orioles team in 1983 that won the World Series, but he didn’t actually pitch.

Shortstop Trea Turner – 2019
Infielder Tracy Woodson – 1988
Pitcher Tim Stoddard – 1983
Infielder Jimmy Brown – 1942

Trea struggled in the World Series, batting .161. Over the course of the whole entire 2019 postseason, Turner hit .233, with 4 doubles, 1 home run, 3 RBIs and 10 runs.

Turner finished the 2019 regular season with a .298 batting average, accompanied by 19 home runs 37 doubles and 35 stolen bases. In ESPN Fantasy Baseball, Turner was the second best Shortstop (average points per game) this year behind Alex Bregman of the Astros.

Before next year, Trea could be in line for a big contract extension. He has three years of arbitration coming up, and the Nats could look to buy out those years, and tack on 3 more for a pretty penny to lock up their beloved leadoff man.
