NC State vs. Wake Forest: SERIES BREAKDOWN

Published

on

While UNC is NC State’s arch rival, the Wolfpack have played the in-state rival Demon Deacons more than any other school over 127 years of football. The two teams have played one another in 109 consecutive years, making it the 3rd longest continuous rivalry in the nation.

NC State holds a 66-40-6 advantage over Wake Forest in a series that totals 112 games, with a 44-22-5 record at home, and a 22-18-1 record on the road.

Despite the fact that the Demon Deacons have only been favored over the Pack twice in the past 10 years, the series is 5-5 over the past decade. While things have been even overall, home field advantage has been a real thing.

NC State has lost 8 of their last 10 games in Winston-Salem, and you guessed it, the Wolfpack has won 8 of their last 10 again the Deacs in Carter-Finley.

A rarity of today’s matchup is the number beside Wake Forest. The Deacs are ranked 23rd in the AP Poll, marking only the 4th time in 113 matchups that they have been ranked when they faced the Wolfpack. NC State hasn’t lost to a ranked Wake team before, going 2-0-1 in the 3 previous games. The last time the Wolfpack played a ranked Demon Deacons squad in Winston-Salem was…never. The last time NC State faced a ranked Wake Forest team on the road was in 1950, but the game was in the literal Wake Forest right down the road, before the school moved in 1956 (The game ended in a 6-6 tie.).
