NC State’s Dereon Seabron to Academically Redshirt 2019-20 Season

NC State Head Coach Kevin Keatts dropped a big blow in his postgame press conference after the Wolfpack’s season opening loss to Georgia Tech at home. To add insult to injury, 4-Star Freshman Guard Dereon Seabron (Massanutten Military Academy) will have to academically redshirt this season.

“Dereon Seabron has had a high ankle sprain for two or three weeks. It is a nagging injury that we hope we can get better. This year, Dereon Seabron will be an academic redshirt. He has been hurt, so we tried to appeal to the NCAA about it, but we lost the appeal so he will not be available to play.” (GoPack)

Seabron had a boot on his foot for the exhibition game against Mt. Olive, so missing last nights game was understandable, but news of him missing the entire season is a big blow to this team.

After Jalen Lecque decided to go to the NBA, instead of playing college basketball at NC State, Seabron was the only member of the 2019 recruiting class.

Seabron was going to give the Wolfpack another option at Point Guard besides Markell Johnson. His absence will now lead Braxton Beverly and C.J. Bryce to get more reps at Point Guard than originally planned.

Simply put, Seabron didn’t have the scores/credits needed, and despite NC State’s appeal, he will have to wait until next year to suit up in the Red and White.
