NC State picked up their first victory of the season tonight, leaning on the hot hand of Junior Guard Braxton Beverly. He scored a career-high 23 points, knocking down a career-high 6 three-pointers (6-8).

Senior Point Guard Markell Johnson made his season debut today, dishing out 10 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds. His shot wasn’t falling, making only 1 of his 8 shots for a total of 3 points.

Redshirt Senior C.J. Bryce splashed he state sheet once again, with 19 points (8-11 FG), 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

NC State might have a phenom on their hands in Redshirt Freshman Manny Bates. After blocking 5 shots in the season opener, Bates managed to improve on that number, blocking 7 shots this afternoon. Bates became the first person since BeeJay Anya in 2014, to block at least five shots in back-to-back games.

We need to give credit where credit is due. Detroit-Mercy’s Antoine Davis, who happens to be be the son of head coach Mike Davis, was a baller today, putting up 28 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

NC State outshot Detroit-Mercy in every facet of the game, but did manage to lose the rebounding battle (40-33).

The Wolfpack will host FIU on Wednesday night at 9pm on RSN.
