NC State Legend Anthony Grundy Killed at Age of 40

NC State Men’s Basketball lost a treasured family member last night.

Former Wolfpack Guard Anthony Grundy was killed near downtown Louisville, Kentucky. From what I can gather, Grundy and his family were at his deceased mother’s house, to celebrate her birthday. When the police arrived, they found him bleeding in the street from stab wounds, and he died roughly 40 minutes later in the hospital. While no one has been arrested or charged, this horrific scene is believed to be a domestic violence dispute.

He was only 40 years old.

Grundy was one of the best scorers to ever suit up for NC State, ranking 9th all-time with 1,641 career points. He led the team in scoring 3 seasons, and earned 1st Team All-ACC honors in 2001-02, when he averaged 17.8 points per game as a Senior. Grundy was a utility tool in Raleigh, also leading the Wolfpack in steals three times, assists twice (13th all-time), and rebounding once. His 239 steals ranks 2nd in school history.

For 11 years after graduating, Grundy played professionally, with 11 of them being overseas, and one of them with the Atlanta Hawks.

Current NC State head coach Kevin Keatts was actually one of Grundy’s assistant coaches at Hargrave Military Academy before going to NC State.

His shot was unorthodox, but nearly impossible to block. He could move his body like Gumby winding through the lane. His long arms made him an artist at taking the ball out of the air, and away from the other team. His smile was infectious.

Rest In Peace Grundy.
