NC State Hires Joe DeForest as Safeties Coach

Last year Tony Gibson served as NC State’s Safeties Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator, but he will be serving as the Wolfpack’s Defensive Coordinator and Linebacker’s Coach.

As a result, NC State was in need of a new Safeties Coach, and Joe DeForest will serve in that role.

For the past two seasons, DeForest served as the Outside Linebackers Coach at Southern California, and the Special Teams Coordinator at Kansas the two years before that.

Just like Brian Mitchell who was hired to be the Wolfpack Cornerback’s Coach today, DeForest has a connection to Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson.

DeForest worked at West Virginia from 2012-15, where he served alongside Gibson for three seasons.

Prior to that, he was on staff at Oklahoma State for 11 years, and Duke for 7 years before that.

“I am really excited to work for Coach Doeren and to be a part of the NC State program,” said DeForest. “Tony Gibson is a tremendous defensive coordinator and I can’t wait to work with him again. It’s also great to get back east, closer to my family.”

“I’m also excited about working with Joe again,” said Gibson. “His experience, his knowledge and his familiarity with our system will be a great addition to our staff.” (GoPack)
