NC State’s 1 of 11 Schools Santa Clara Transfer Trey Wertz is Considering
Six days ago, NC State offered Santa Clara Transfer Trey Wertz. Yesterday he told Evan Daniels of 247Sports that the Wolfpack are 1 of 11 schools that he is considering, alongside Arizona, Butler, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Xavier.
“Over these next several weeks, I just want to keep building relationships with those staffs and start to learn about their individual programs and ultimately will have to cut my list down again but right now I wanted to move forward with those 11,” he added.
“Relationships wise, Arizona I have a pretty good relationship with because coach [Justin] Gainey was my lead recruiter at Santa Clara and he’s now one of the assistants at Arizona so they kind of had a jump on that part,” Wertz said.
“Butler has been on me a lot so I talk to them a lot, Oklahoma, NC State, all of them have done a pretty good job in this short time period,” he added. “There’s still a lot of uncertainty if I will be able to visit schools but right now I don’t really have a plan for that yet.” (247)
Wertz averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists last year as a Sophomore, earning All-WCC Team Honorable Mention. He was extremely efficient shooting the ball, knocking down 48.9% from the field, and 40% from beyond the arch. As a Freshman, Wertz earned a spot on the WCC All-Freshman Team.
Wertz will have two years of eligibility left wherever he lands, but will have to sit out a season due to transfer rules. He played high school ball at Providence Day in Charlotte, North Carolina.
