Nats & Trea Turner Talking New Contract…it Should be BIG!

Former NC State All-American Shortstop Trea Turner and the Washington Nationals started talking about a contract extension back during Spring Training. Turner has 2 years of arbitration before he is a free agent, but the Nats know they want to build around him, but it will come with a hefty price tag.

“He’s got a bright future,” Mike Rizzo said Sunday. “I know that much. Going to make a lot of money.” (NBC)

Turner is playing the best baseball of his career currently, and he is also one of the best players in all of baseball right now. As of today, he is leading the majors in batting average (.365), hits (58), and ranks 7th in on-base percentage (.417), 7th in slugging percentage (.635), and 5th in OPS (1.052). Turner recently had a 16-game hitting streak snapped, but he picked up where he left off, and is currently on a 5-game streak.

If Turner manages to keep up his blazing batting average, he would become the first shortstop to bat over .350 since 1935.
