NC State’s Football team will try to break a 7-game losing streak against ranked opponents tonight when they step onto the field at Heinz Field to face the #24 Panthers.

10/28/17 – @ #9 Notre Dame – 14-35
11/4/17 – #6 Clemson – 31-38
10/20/18 – @ #3 Clemson – 7-41
12/31/18 – N #21 Texas A&M – 13-52
11/2/19 – @ #23 Wake Forest – 10-44
11/9/19 – #5 Clemson – 10-55
9/26/20 – @ #20 Virginia Tech – 45-24

A victory over Virginia Tech would be a signature win for Dave Doeren, who has an abysmal 2-16 record against Top-25 opponents, with both of those coming back in 2017 over Louisville (#17) and Florida State (#11). It’s worth noting that in 2017 neither Louisville and Florida State finished the season ranked. Doeren has never beaten a team that finished the season in the Top-25.

Many preseason College Football Previews alluded to the fact that Doeren was the ACC coach most likely to be on the Hot Seat by seasons end. If he can’t find a way to get a signature win under his belt, the seat will be blazing. A victory today would be a good way to cool it down a bit.
