Bracket Breakdown: NC State gets a #9 seed. Set to play Syracuse on Wednesday

With the Duke loss last night, NC State moves ahead of them in the standings and thus, replaces them at the #9 seed in the ACC Tournament.

This sets up a matchup between the Pack and Syracuse.

The Orange have recently been listed as the last team ‘out’ of the NCAA Tournament by ESPN’s Joe Lunardi, so there will be a lot on the line for them. However, NC State is red hot, coming off their 5th straight win, and 5th road win in a row.

The Wolfpack dropped their two regular seasons matchups with the Orange, but both were close games and NC State is a very different team now. The freshmen have now seen the matchup zone two times and will have a much better idea of how to attack it.

IF State can pull off the victory, then they move on to face the #1 seed, Virginia, who the Pack has already beaten this season. If they can win both of those games, you HAVE to believe they are in the conversation for the NCAA Tournament (but we’ll have a lot more on that later today).

After Virginia, you’d have a matchup between either Georgia Tech or (likely) Clemson. A win there puts you into the finals.

The other side of the bracket is stacked. Duke, UNC, Virginia Tech, Louisville, and FSU are probably the most dangerous teams in the ACC and they’ll all be fighting to get to that finals game.

The tournament tips off at 2pm on Tuesday, but with the 9th seed, State won’t play until Wednesday at noon.

We’ll have more ACCT coverage as the week goes on.
