Vonwolf: I’m Ready to be Hurt Again

A friend once emailed me this sentiment, “I don’t know why you keep going back. This never ends well for you and I can’t stand to see ya get gut punched repeatedly and worn down. Just have to say bye and go.”

Was he talking about a girl or State?

Both.

After that incredibly crappy Duke loss (although to be fair, we lost mainly from Hurt’s showing why he’s the next coming of Larry Bird), I thought the season was officially donzo. Play some freshmen, get the seniors their minutes, let’s start drooling over recruits and the future.

Then they won.

And won.

And won some more. The five straight wins meant that it wasn’t totally crazy to get committee looks, if they could string together a few more wins in the tourney.

Now we’re here.

The plan is to be as productive as possible until noon and then as drunk as possible by 3. The latter of which, I hope is in pure celebration that Jimmy B had to bring his a*s all the way to down from Syracuse to GD Greensboro, to lose in the first game.

I have given myself irrationally high hopes for this team can make a run. The hope Cam Hayes is good shooting Cam (7 for 11, 20 pts against ND), not bad shooting Cam (1 for 8, 6 pts against Pitt). That Manny decides he’s just gonna be a double-double machine for four days and Beverly brings three’s and a steady dose of his signature smirk. I hope that DJ, Moore and Seabron just find ways to be contribute as much as possible.

I hope I scream…you scream…Keatts screams…for ice cream. Furthermore, I hope I gain 8 pounds this week, from said ice cream runs.

To be frank, I’m just excited after this wild, unpredictable year that State still has a chance to do something great. This is not to say, Facebook trolls, that I accept struggling to make the NCAAT. It’s specifically focused on salvaging a dead season and trying to have some fun.

The chances are much higher that we lose it all than win. I’ve fully accepted the fact by Saturday, potentially at the latest, I’ll be sad Vonwolf.

I’m okay being hurt again.

I mean think about it…we could be Boston College fans.
