Wrestling Off to Near Perfect Start

Thursday kicked off State’s pursuit of individual and team Championship runs. It couldn’t have started much better. State wrestlers went 8-1, with the one loss…how do you say?…a screw job…

285 – #10 D. Wilson defeats #23 McAleavey (Citadel): Wilson needed a big takedown in the 3rd period to secure the 4-1 win.

197 – #5 Warner (Iowa) defeats #28 Reenan: Reenan had it…Jumped out to a big 7-2 lead heading into the 3rd period. Had Warner pinned twice, but no call. Then gets a “stall” call forcing the match to OT, where Wilson got the takedown and 9-7 win. Reenan won it in the first half and just ran out of gas with no help from ref.

184 – #2 T. Hidlay defeats #31 Reyes (Oregon State): An eight point first is all Hidlay needed, walking away with a huge 17-2 victory.

174 – #8 D. Bullard defeats #25 Surratt (Air Force): A tight contest was won with takedowns in each of the first two periods. Bullard wins 4-0.

165 – #17 T. Bullard defeats #16 Formato (App State): Avenging an early season loss to Formato (SoCon Wrestler of the Year), Bullard pulls out the 3-2 win with an early 1st period takedown.

157 – #2 H. Hidlay defeats #31 Petite (Buffalo): Another Hidlay, another huge victory…six takedowns later Hayden wins 14-5.

141 – #4 T. Wilson defeats #29 Zollman (Wyoming): Wilson was absolutely PERFECT in his technical victory, walking away with a score of 17-0.

133 – #12 Trombley defeats #21 Van Vleet (Air Force): The only takedown of the match was 15-second in, which is what Trombley needed for the 3-2 victory.

125 – #6 Camacho defeats #27 Curry (American): A quick 4 points by Curry, but then Camacho took over. Seven takedowns and a 4-pt near fall give Jakob the 21-9 win.
