Just About Every NC State NFL QB has a New Home

With a lowered salary cap, the NFL is a bit upside down and State QB’s have felt the effects. Let’s take a look what they did last year, where they’re at now and what impact they could have.

Ryan Finley – Houston Texans

Early reports were that the Bengals planned on just cutting Finley, but instead found a trade partner in the Houston Texans. The 2019 fourth round pick, hasn’t had the NFL start most saw him having, after a stellar State career. Outside of a big Monday Night upset of the Steelers, Finley has only started 4 games over the last two seasons, with 3 touchdowns, 4 interceptions and a passer rating of under 55.

Current Situation: D+

The Houston Texans are a dumpster fire. Could Watson be traded? Who the hell knows. The problem for Finley, however, deepens as the Texans also picked up journeyman Tyrod Taylor this offseason. At best, Finley is a practice squad guy that is bumped up only if Watson is on the move. At worst, he’s cut and hopes to find work elsewhere. Regardless, less than ideal situation to be in, especially with that organization.

Mike Glennon – New York Giants

Eight seasons, six teams. Mike Glennon signed a $1.35, one-year deal with the Giants this offseason, after doing what he could in Jacksonville. The former third-round pick has embraced the journey that has taken him from coast to coast, especially of late. Through just five games last season, he was still able to go over a thousand yards, with 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

Current Situation: A-

Glennon is in prime position, in more ways than one. First he moves to the Big Apple with a team that is pouring money into improving. He’ll backup Daniel Jones (Damn Dookie), but should see time as Jones has missed a couple games in each of his first two seasons. Giants have all the weapons you could want with Saquon Barkely, Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and the newly signed Kenny Golladay. Chance to play in a stacked offense? Yep, Mike will take that.

Jacoby Brissett – Miami Dolphins

Since being picked by the Pats in the third round, Brissett has had an interesting, albeit frustrating, first five seasons. Every other year he’s been a starter, including a solid 2019 season where he went over 3,000 total yards, 22 total touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Last year, he was backup to another State great, Philip Rivers, but still found random plays to come in. This offseason, he signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins.

Current Situation: B+

Last year, the Dolphins were one game out of a playoff spot. The chances that Tua plays all 17 games next year is 0.001%. The only downside of this situation, is that Miami has made it known that Tua is their guy. Even when Fitzpatrick was finding ways to get big wins, they still pushed him out. Good news, Brissett will play…bad news, it won’t be long, especially if Tua is at least 90% healthy.

Russell Wilson – Seattle Seahawks (For Now)

Name a team and I’ll give you a Wilson rumor. In one of the hottest topics this offseason, Wilson and the Seahawks haven’t been on the same page. There was a moment last week that it seemed as though the Chicago Bears were about to pull the trigger. Reports have since come out, that a deal was offered to send Wilson to Chi-Town for three 1sts, a 3rd, Hicks, Mack AND THEN some. If Seattle didn’t take that deal, not sure if Wilson will be heading anywhere else soon.

Current Situation: B+

I mean, he’s on a playoff bound team…but his line gives him no help. Seattle hasn’t necessarily gone out and gotten more pieces like we thought they would. He’ll win some games, but he’ll also be banged up by Week 7.

Philip Rivers – Retired

What a damn career. We’ll be jumping into his stats and accomplishments in the coming weeks, but until then, congrats Rivers on being awesome. Last season, he had 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while going for over 4,000 yards and leading the Colts into the playoffs. With Carson Wentz now behind center, would hedge a bet that Colts and their fans will be missing Rivers and Brissett by about Week 3.
