State in Final 8 for transfer Phlandrous Fleming, All-Conference & Defensive POY in Big South

Ok, it’s clear now. Keatts is definitely focusing on bringing in another wing/guard next year and today they were one step closer.

First, we learned about 6’7 shooter Kaiden Rice, then we heard he met with 6’6 Davion Walker, and now we learn he’s met with the 6’4 senior guard from Charleston Southern, Phlandrous Fleming.

According to The Athens Banner-Herald, NC State is one of the first schools to offer Fleming a scholarship as a grad-transfer.

The 6-foot-4 guard has garnered attention from Arkansas, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, Wake Forest and Ole Miss, but only the Aggies have offered a scholarship so far, Fleming said

Fleming is a strong athlete who really excels at getting to the rim. He averaged 20 ppg this year after scoring 17 as a junior. Speaking of that junior season, Fleming was All-Big South First team and was named defensive player of the year. He won defensive player of the year again this year, making him, making him the 5th player to ever win the award in back-to-back seasons. He was 3rd in voting for player of the year, and only trailed Davion Walker by a couple of votes. (Walker is the other guy on NC State’s radar). He was also, again, first team all-conference.

His stat line is nice. 20ppg, 7.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and he shot almost 40% from the floor. He did only shoot 32% from the 3 point line though, and that is an area NC State needs help.

Fleming is a Georgia native and may want to head home to play at UGA, however, that isn’t set in stone. Here is what he said about UGA…

“There is a possibility, we’re in contact right now and I would love to go home,” Fleming told the Athens Banner-Herald. “The hometown will definitely be a decision I’d love to make.” (OnlineAthens.com)

“I want to see how good I really am, that’s what everyone wants to know,” Fleming said. “The Big South Conference isn’t as good as the SEC, the ACC, the Big East and all of those, so it’s going to be big-time basketball. I love (Athens), but I can’t count out others either.” (Onlineathens.com)
