NC State has landed former 4-star SG and UVA transfer Casey Morsell!

This is a huge get for Kevin Keatts, who needed some depth and experience at the guard position. Morsell is a 6’2, 196lb shooting guard who was recruited heavily by both UVA and Florida. He averaged 4.4 points and a rebound last season in just 15 minutes per game.

Morsell was never a fit offensively for UVA, as his skill set is more suited for an uptempo style. However, he was brought to UVA for his physicality and his dominance on the defensive side of the ball. He was a projected starter on next year’s squad, but will instead be playing his (repeat) sophomore season at NC State.

Morsell was actually a very good scorer in high school and it was thought that he’d be a high-end scorer at the college level, but he was relegated to becoming a jump shooter for UVA, and that simply isn’t the strongest part of his game. He’s a great mid-range shooter and he’s strong to the hoop. The scouts believed he’d become a good outside shooter, however, that part of his game has not developed yet.

Keatts has not brought in two guys are elite defenders, and it’s likely you’ll finally see NC State have the personnel to lock down and make stops.

We’ll have much more on Morsell later today.

“Keatts has not brought in two guys …” – typo? Did you mean ‘now’?
