Weekend Roundup: With the Good Comes the Bad
Men’s Golf
State men’s squad started their season off with a solid second place finish at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham. It truly was a two horse race between State (-24) and eventual winner UNC (-27). Third place, Duke, was 16-strokes behind the Wolfpack, with the remainder of the field much further back. Steinlechner was State’s best finisher at 203 for the weekend, second overall. Women’s golf starts today.
Women’s Soccer
Thursday State women’s soccer DESTROYED Oklahoma behind a 5-0 effort. Goals by Thomas, Elmendorf, Kawagishi and two by Guttenberger (added an assist, as well). Even though shots for the game we’re 9-9, State was able to get eight of those on target with the five goals.
State then faced #11 Penn State on Sunday and gave them all they could handle. Wolfpack outshot Penn State, but allowed a goal in the last minute of play to lose 1-0. State moves to 4-2-2 on the season.
Men’s Soccer
Wolfpack hosted #2 ranked Clemson Friday night in Raleigh. In front of nearly 2,000 at the Dail, State went toe-to-toe, but fell 2-0. Clemson remains undefeated on the year, State drops to 3-2.
Women’s Volleyball
State. Took. Care. Of. Business. Attending the Rutgers Tournament over the weekend, State went undefeated, beating Brown (3-0), host Rutgers (3-2) and NJIT (3-0). The Wolfpack have now gone 5-1 in their last six and hope to keep the upward trend going, as they host Georgia and Arkansas this weekend in the ACC/SEC Challenge at Reynolds.
