Fact or Fiction: NC State Football Stinks at Boston College and After Bye Weeks

When many in WPN think about playing at Boston College or after the bye week, they have a sour taste in their mouth. They automatically assume the worst and that this game in Chestnut Hill is a billion percent chance of a trap game. Don’t get us wrong, it’s a big game and State fans know all too well what COULD happen, but historically speaking, all is not that bad.

State Always Loses At Boston College

False –  Since taking over at State, Doeren’s squads are 2-2 at Chestnut Hill. Those two losses? 2013 and 2019. Simply put, those teams sucked. 2013 with Doeren’s first year as coach and after starting the season 3-1, State finished with eight straight loses. 2019 was a similar situation. Started 4-2, before a six game slide. Boston College, in both cases, was smack in the middle of both awful stretches. They didn’t start the fire, they just happened to show up when the house was in flames.

State is Always Bad Out of Bye Weeks

Leaning False – The record isn’t necessarily great, 4-4. The problem is, all four loses have been to ranked opponents. At #9 Notre Dame, versus #3 Clemson, at #23 Wake Forest and at #14 UNC. All four also happen to be the last four years. Tough to come out of a bye week and face a national championship contender or head on the road to face an in-state rival.

In the end, Doeren’s squads have competed in both, but tonight’s test won’t be easy. The rubber match is set, can Doeren move to positive winning percentages for both?
