Nobody Wants to Play NC State’s Upset-Minded Women’s Soccer Team

State women’s soccer is the most dangerous team in the land. In just the last ten days, they’ve beaten #4 Duke in Durham and Saturday night took down #3 UNC at home. While their record stands at just 7-6-2, the number of close calls is astounding.

  • Ties #9 Georgetown (Had more shots on goal in the season opener)
  • Loses to #10 South Carolina in last minute of play
  • Loses to #11 Penn State in last minute of play
  • Loses to #16 Clemson with goal in last five minutes
  • Loses to #5 UVA in last minute

What an absolute, mind blowing number of games that they were on the cusp of pulling one out or, at the very, least getting a tie.

Win Versus #4 Duke

After trading goals in regulation (State goal by Wohner), the teams went to double-OT, before Jameese Joseph scored to win it all.

Win Versus #3 UNC

Jameese Joseph scored the game winner, her 7th goal of the season, in the 25th minute.

But really it was the Maria Echezarreta show. EIGHT saves, many of which beauts, kept UNC off the board.

State’s next home game – and last for the season – is Sunday the 24th versus Syracuse.
