Weekend Roundup

NC State Women’s Teams have a Heck of a Weekend

on

The lads in football fell and the men’s basketball team got devastating news, but the ladies absolutely crushed this weekend.

Women’s Cross-Country

The women’s squad dominated their regional meet, both individually and as a team, to head to the national meet next weekend. Kelsey Chmiel and Katelyn Tuohy once again finished first and second. Six runner finished in the top-25 as the team beat second place UNC by a whopping 39 points. (For some perspective, that’s a big time, no doubt win)

Women’s Basketball

South Carolina rained on the start of the 2021 season, but the Wolfpack came right back into form. Friday, State beat Wofford 90-57, with six players scoring at least 8 points. Kayla Jones ame back stronger than ever with 15 points and a couple of rebounds and assists. Diamond Johnson had her first big game getting 10 points, 7 boards and 4 assists. State outscored Wofford 56-28 in the second half in front of 3500 folks.

On Sunday, they did it again, this time against SEC Florida. Cunane had a game, scoring 18 points with 13 boards as State won 85-52. Unlike the slow start that the Wolfpack had in there first two games, there was no question who the better team was Sunday. State shot 52.5% from the field and 65% from three. The bench put up 29 points and overall the team rebounding was much improved.

State will play their third game in four days, Monday against Towson.

Women’s Soccer

We talked about it a few weeks back, that NO ONE wants to play State soccer in the NCAAT. Although there were nervous moments that they’d even get a bid, State made the statement true Sunday in Tampa. Against #22 nationally ranked USF, State won 2-0 to yet again advance into the second round.

The Wolfpack outshot the Bulls and used goals from Wohner and Joseph (team leading 9th) to win. Friday they’ll head to Tallahassee to face #10 Pepperdine.

Softball

No games, but this weekend was signing day in the softball world…and State crushed.

Just a nationally ranked class, full of studs. Coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift and staff have been doing everything right in getting this program in a spot to be a force in the ACC.
