Five More Reasons Why NC State’s Game Against UNC is Important

Published

We know, we know…If you’re a State fan and aren’t excited to rip the Tar Heels apart, are you even a State fan? But we wanted to just add some more fuel to the fire…

1A – Just get this out of the way…GTHC

1 – Pursuit of Double-Digit Wins

If State can win two more games this year, they’ll have double-digit wins for only the second time in school history. A win would also make it three out of five years of hitting 9 wins. The only double-digit win team was the  2002 squad, under Chuck Amato, which went 11-3 with a Gator Bowl win over the Irish. Finger-crossed, because if State can match that win total…

2 – ACC Championship Dreams Still Alive

Four things had to happen for State to still make it to Charlotte…Two of them were completed last week, with Wake’s loss to Clemson and State’s win over Syracuse. The ACC Atlantic now comes down to two games, and two games only. Can State beat their rivals Friday and then Wake slip up against Boston College? If that happens, there will be pandemonium in Raleigh. Meanwhile, in Chapel Hill…

3 – Mack is Back…to .500

I mean…how beautiful would this be? With a win Friday, State will force Mack Brown to finish 6-6 for two out of his three seasons. If you include Fedora’s crash and burn exit, UNC will have a winning regular season record in only one of the last five years. For a team that started the season ranked 10th, we’d love nothing more than to see it. Speaking of rankings…

4 – Best Final Rankings Since 2002

Going back to that Philip Rivers’ squad, State has the chance to finish as a top-15 team this year. In 2017, State finished 23rd, but it’s been a long road to being ranked by season’s end. A win against UNC, **maybe a game in Charlotte***, and a bowl victory would ensure State moves up from their current 20th ranked position.

5 – A Perfect Sendoff for Studs Players

There’s gonna be some names announced Friday for “Senior Night” that are going to hurt the soul a little. Ekwonu says he’s undecided, but we know he’ll head to that primetime draft slot and hear his name called early day one. State’s all-time reception leader, Emezie, will also peace out, along with Person, Joseph and others. Would be awfully nice to settle the score against those Tar Heels…
