By the Numbers: Where do NC State players rank nationally so far this season?

on

We wanted to take a look at how NC State players are faring so far this season (nationally), so we took a look at the Ken Pom ratings. Here are the notables:

  • Cam Hayes ranks 70th in TO Rate.
  • Dereon Seabron ranks 74th in Steal%.
  • Dereon Seabron ranks 144th in Offensive Rating.
  • Ebe Dowuona ranks 63rd in block%.
  • Jericole Hellems ranks 42nd in FT% (93%).
  • Jericole Hellems ranks 122nd in 3pt % (48%).
  • Casey Morsell ranks 166th in FT Rate.

If you are unsure of what these stats mean, here is a guide:

FT Rate: Free Throw Rate or FTR is the ratio of Free Throw Attempts to Field Goal Attempts. Free Throw Rate is calculated by dividing Free Throw Attempts by Field Goal Attempts. The formula is FTA/FGA.

Offensive Rating: Points produced per 100 possessions, while for teams it is points scored per 100 possessions. This rating was developed by Dean Oliver, author of Basketball on Paper.

Block%: Blocked shots / Opp. 2PA

Steal%: Steals / Defensive possessions

Turnover Rate (TORate): This is the percentage of personal possessions used on turnovers. It can be highly dependent on context.  Players that do little passing or dribbling (i.e. spot-up shooters) will have an artificially deflated TO%.
