Cam Spencer is a 6’4 shooter who is recieving interest from NC State since entering into the transfer portal.

Spencer played his first 3 seasons at Loyola and still has 2 years of eligability left. He has been an efficient scorer over his career, but really kicked it up a notch this past season, when he averaged 19 points, 4.8 boards and 3.2 assists. He shot 35% from 3, and 48% from the floor. Not too bad considering this was the worst shooting season of his career.

During his freshman campaign, Spencer shot a blistering 43.6% from long range, and last year in limited action, shot nearly 47% from deep.

This past season, Spencer was the teams leading scorer (by far) and was asked to shoulder most of the offensive load. This led to him forcing shots that he hadn’t been taking in his two prior seasons. While he can create for himself, he is a guy who would fit best in a situaiton where he’d be able to share the offensive load.

Against UNC, Spencer went for 15 points, and in Loyola’s conference tournament loss (his final game), he scored 28. It’s safe to say that the bright lights didn’t scare him off. Because of this, and because NC State desperately needs more shooters, Keatts and company has reached out to him.

As of now, NC State, Maryland and Minnesota are the biggest schools after him and he’s got a visit coming up with Minnesota. With Terquavion Smith potentially coming back, the two spot might be congested, so it’s not clear what fit he might have. However, if Smith departs, then Spencer is likely a high priority for the Pack. Keatts, however, isn’t shy about going small, and its possible Spencer and Smith could both be on the court at the same time (especially if State brings in a bigger PG).

As of now, there is no visit scheduled, so this is a wait and see situation.
