T.Y. McGill’s 2 Sacks on Sunday Night Make a Case for Spot on Roster

Former NC State Defensive Tackle T.Y. McGill has been a story of perseverance and grind ever since going undrafted in 2015. Shortly thereafter, McGill signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Seattle. McGill failed to make the Seahawks 53-man roster, but was scooped up by the Colts a day later.

Since 2015, McGill has signed with 10 different NFL teams, including 3 stints with the Chargers and 2 with the Eagles. McGill only saw game action on 5 of those squads. On those other occasions, he was a part of the team during the offseason, training camp or practice squads during the season.

One way or another, McGill has found a way onto the field in all 7 seasons since leaving NC State.

Back in November of last year, he was signed to the Vikings practice squad, but never made it up to the 53-man roster or on the field for a game, but that didn’t stop Minnesota from signing him again in March.

On Sunday night, McGill picked up 2 sacks in the Vikings 20-26 loss to the Raiders, making a strong case he belongs on the 53-man roster.

McGill has collected 35 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 8 tackles for loss, 21 QB hits, in 46 games played (0 starts) over 7 seasons.

You’ve got to love the hustle of McGill. The NFL journeyman has earned $3.41 million dollars in 7 seasons, and has a 1-year contract with Minnesota for $1.04 million if he makes the Vikings roster.
