WATCH: 2023 4-star NC State prospect Davin Cosby Jr. is a Terquavion Smith clone

Davin Cosby Jr. is a 6’5, 180lb Terquavion Smith clone.

It’s no wonder that the Word of God (Raleigh) star is getting the attention of NC State head coach Kevin Keatts. Not only is he right down the street, but he’s also the closest thing out there to the guy he’d be trying to replace.

Smith is 6’4, 160lbs, so he’s smaller for sure, but the two guards have the same mentality. They are big, tall guards who can get to the rim and have seemingly unlimited range from 3.

Coming out of High School, the only question surrounding Smith was whether or not he’d be able to learn how to pick his spots at the next level. He was an elite shooter, but he was so good that he’d often take tough shots from 5 feet behind the 3 point line instead of working the ball around to get an easier look.

Turns out, it didn’t really matter. Smith has reined in his shot selection, but he still takes some deep 3s. The reason you don’t hear anyone complaining is because he hits them.

Cosby Jr is in the same boat. The kid is tall and has insane ranage, so he can really get a shot off at any point. The question for Cosby is the same question that people had about Smith at that point in his career.

Coming from experience with this type of player, Keatts seems to be all in.

Cosby Jr. is taking his official visit to NC State on September 16th. He’s one of 3 elite SGs that NC State is courting. The other two are also big guards who can score, however, Silas Demary Jr and Braelon Green are more selective with their shots, a little more physical, and like to get to the rim.

Honestly, Keatts can’t go wrong with any of these guys, so the hope is that the Pack can reel in one of them. However, if things work out this year with Smith, Cosby Jr. might start to look even more enticing as a replacement to the future NBA talent.

Cosby has shifty handles for his size, and very good body control. He’s not quite as athletic as Smith, but he’s bigger and has a frame that could put on some muscle at the next level.

Just look at this kid’s range in the video above.

I love a long range shooter. You can’t have too many of them.
