Carlos Rodon moves into the SF Giants record books with last night’s 10 K performance

Last night, Carlos Rodon was electric. He pitched 6 innings, gave up zero runs, and struck out 10. Although his bullpen blew it later in the game, taking away his chance at the win, Rodon’s performance was still the story of the night.

With those 10 strikeouts, Rodon moved over the 200 K mark for the season, putting him in some rare air.

Did you know that only 6 lefties in San Francisco Giants history have struck out 200+ in a season?

Madison Bumgarner did it 4 times. Cy Seymour did it in 1889. Rube Marquard did it in 1911. Ray Sadecki did it in 1968. Jonathan Sanchez did it in 2010. And now NC State’s own Carlos Rodon has done it in 2022.

Rodon is also working his way up the ranks to have the most K’s by a Giant in his first season with the team. He should eclipse that mark before season’s end. Oh, and he also tied the record for most K’s in a Giants debut during his first start of the season.

Carlos Rodon has finally arrived. He’s got a 2.92 ERA. He’s struck out 201 batters. He’s in the running for a Cy Young award.
