NC State Football

Dear AP Poll Voters…

To all of you AP Poll voters out there. A few thoughts.

NC State beat East Carolina in a football game 21-20 on Saturday…and they had the 3rd furthest drop of any team in the Week 2 AP Poll.

Oregon went from 11th to unranked.
Utah dropped from 7th to 13th…6 spots.
The Wolfpack fell 5 spots…from 13th to 18th.

Oregon and Utah lost…NC State won.

I mean…I expected y’all would punish the Wolfpack for a victory, which is beautifully ironic, but 5 spots?

So…I’m guessing you noticed that the Pirates handed the Wolfpack a gift, missing an extra point that would have tied the game, and a field goal that would have won it. Your logic…NC State won…but they should have lost.

But did you watch the game, or did you just watch that replay blow up all over Twitter?

Because I can play your logic in the opposite direction. On the goal line, Quarterback Devin Leary snuck the ball into the endzone, only for the refs to call the play dead…to move the ball. On the goal line on another drive, Running Back Jordan Houston fumbled the ball.

Using your logic, NC State “should” have had 14 more points on the board. Using your logic, I guess you could say the score should have been 35-24.

Are you getting my use of your logic?

Or maybe you’re thinking you shouldn’t have ranked NC State 13th in the preseason poll…maybe you think that was too high…especially after Big Game Boomer went off and projected the Wolfpack in the College Football Playoff, nearly blowing up the Twitterverse.

I get the argument that Preseason polls mean nothing, because no one has played a game…but y’alls effort in the Preseason Poll isn’t random…come on. NC State finished last year 20th and returned 18 starters. 13th wasn’t a ranking that made y’all look like you had rose colored glasses on.

Did NC State play like the 13th best team in the country on Saturday? No. Could y’all bumping them back to 18th serve as a little humble pie for the Wolfpack? Sure.

Look…I’m an NC State fan…have been for life. I know what this in-state rivalry means. I was scared going down to Greenville for the season opener. I think we actually played a good football team, which is getting lost in all of this. A team that hates the Wolfpack by the way. The game was in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, where NC State had only won 1 out of 4 games before Saturday. I didn’t expect it to be pretty.

I’m not excited about the way NC State played as a whole on Saturday…I get you have questions, as you should.

But…

Does your logic make sense though? No…no it doesn’t.

Well said. Especially about Ecu. The tranfers they brought in on top of the players they had. That was a tough team to play on the road in week 1. A rival! It felt like here we go again but some how we got lucky.
