NC State Looking to Break a 6-Game Losing Streak Against Non-ACC Power 5 Opponents

It’s not everyday that NC State hosts a Non-ACC Power-5 opponent at Carter-Finley Stadium. In fact, in the Dave Doeren era, it has happened only one time, when the Wolfpack defeated Notre Dame 10-3 in 2016.

This is Doeren’s 10th season in Raleigh, and in that time, NC State has played 10 Non-ACC Power 5 opponents, and half of those were in bowl games.

NC State’s record against Non-ACC Power 5 opponents under Doeren is 3-7 , and the Wolfpack is currently on a 6-game losing streak.

The Wolfpack are ranked 16th in the AP Poll currently, and were preseason ranked 13th. This isn’t to take anything away from winning games in conference, but if NC State wants to prove they belong with the big boys of College Football, they need to be able to beat Non-ACC Power 5 teams.

When the season began, fans were looking ahead to the Clemson game. That’s a mistake…on so many levels. Defeating the Red Raiders is a statement game for the Wolfpack.
