NC State Head Coach Dave Doeren spoke with the media in his postgame press conference after the Wolfpack beat Texas Tech 27-14. You can watch it here, or check out a BULLETED breakdown below.

  • Very proud of the team. That was a good team win. Getting the interceptions on defense. Throughout the football game, fed off of teach other. Played complementary football at times.
  • That was a good offense. Thought Coach Gibson called some good blitzes at the right times, and mixed it up.
  • When you get that many takeaways, and a turnover on special teams with their muffed punt, you ought to be able to win.
  • Payton Wilson was so happy just now in the locker room. Super happy for him. Seeing his speed, in the open field, tracking people down…it’s just different. The whole locker room is super happy for Payton [led the team with 10 tackles]. He was ear-to-ear smiling downstairs.
  • Special Teams were very dominant today. Very proud of those guys. They are playing hard.
    • It’s great to have Chris Dunn. He’s really in a good rhythm right now with his kicks.
  • Found Demie Sumo on the bench [after he fumbled into the endzone], and he had his head down. He told him to look him in the eyes, and said ‘You need to make up for that. You’re going to get a chance. And when you get it, you need to help the team, because you just let us down right there. You can. You can go out there and be a difference maker.
    • It’s great when you see a guy make mistakes, they learn from them, and make up for them. To see Demie do that, he was very proud of him. He thanked him after, and he thanked me for having his back. Neat moment on the sideline there.
  • Devin was frustrated. I know he can play better. The guys need to play better too. They need to make catches for him. He’s got to put the ball where they can catch it, and they’ve got to catch it for him. He can play better, they can play better, they can call plays better. He has really high expectations for himself, and he’ll be really hard on himself in the game room.
  • Felt like we ran the ball pretty effectively in the game. Jordan Houston got off to a good start running the football. Once they got a two score lead, the way their offense plays fast, we were trying to keep it away, and run clock.
  • Doesn’t think they are a one-dimensional team. Texas Tech has 10 Seniors starting on defense. Not like they were playing a bunch of Freshman. We’re a veteran defense. You had two veteran defenses slugging it out.
  • Aydan White played a great game. He also had the sack, and I thought that was a fumble, but that’s a different conversation. He covered well. Played well on the ball. Had a really good football game. Thought he tackled well too.

I was waiting for Devin Leary to catch fire and he just simply didn’t. I wondered if this had to do with penalties and somehow not being able to get into a rhythm. Glad we won.
