49ers Add Former NC State DT T.Y. McGill to Practice Squad

Former NC State Defensive Tackle T.Y. McGill has been added to the 49ers Practice Squad.

McGill played with the Vikings this preseason, and ranked 2nd in the NFL in sacks with 3.5.

Since 2015 after going undrafted, McGill has signed with 11 different NFL teams. McGill has only seen game action on 5 of those squads. On those other occasions, he was a part of the team during the offseason, training camp or practice squads during the season. This marks the 10th time McGill has been signed to a Practice Squad.

One way or the other, McGill has found his way onto the football field as a member of a 53-man roster 7 consecutive seasons. We will have to wait and see if he can find his way up for his 8th consecutive year in 2022.

Though McGill has never started in an NFL game over 7 seasons, the journeyman has made a career out of it, earning $3.64 million over that span.

McGill has found his way up to the 53-man roster at some point every year. I don’t expect 2022 will be any different.
