4-Star PG Ty-Laur Johnson is Down to NC State, Mississippi State & Memphis
According to Dushawn London of 247Sports, 4-Star 2023 Point Guard Ty-Laur Johnson (6’0″/160) is down to three schools: NC State, Mississippi State and Memphis.
“I got two more visits left to Memphis and Mississippi State,” he said. “I’m close to a decision. I just need to check out those two schools then I’ll be ready to make my decision. I’m deciding between NC State, Mississippi State, and Memphis.”
NC State: “I like the way coach Keatts let’s his guards go. They play pick and roll and get up and down which would benefit my game.”
“On my visit it was pretty good and I liked how beautiful the campus is. While I was there they told me they’d let me run the show, play pick and roll, and go up and down which stood out.” (247)
Johnson’s recruitment has been interesting. He has taken 4 Official Visits: Pittsburgh (9/1), Fordham (9/17), Ole Miss (9/23), and NC State (10/08). What is interesting is the fact that only 1 of the schools he has taken Official Visits to, NC State, is in his final 3. So as it currently stands, he might visit Mississippi St an Memphis, but only one of them will be able to be an official.
The Wolfpack were late to the game with Johnson, offering him on September 28th, but Mississippi St and Memphis were even later, both offering him after NC State.
What it looks like to me is that NC State beat out Pitt, Fordham and Ole Miss, but since Memphis and Mississippi St. just threw their names in the hat yesterday, they will be considered.
ON3 is feeling pretty confident in Johnson being an NC State lean at this point, giving an 85% chance he commits to the Wolfpack.
Rivals ranks Johnson as the #54 overall player nationally in the 2023 recruiting class, and the #1 player in the state of New York according to ESPN.
