NC State vs. Wake Forest: The Longest ACC Rivalry & 2nd Longest in the FBS

Published

on

What is the longest running rivalry in the ACC?

Duke vs. UNC?

No.

NC State vs. UNC?

No again.

Correct answer?

NC State vs. Wake Forest.

(P.S. Obviously we hate UNC more. I said longest running, people.)

The Wolfpack have faced the Demon Deacons that more than any other team in their 125 years of college football.

Tomorrows game will be the 116th time the two in-state rivals have played one another, and NC State holds a 67-42-6 advantage. The Wolfpack are 37-21-4 against the Demon Deacons at home.

This is mind blowing, but the Wolfpack and the Demon Deacons have played each other every single year since 1910, making it the second longest running series in the FBS, trailing only Wisconsin and Minnesota, who have played each other every year since 1906.

While this might be the 116th time the two teams have played, it will only be the 3rd time the two have met while being ranked.

2021: #16 NC State 42 #12 Wake Forest 45

1992: #25 Wake Forest 14 #13 NC State 42

Wolfpack Head Coach Dave Doeren is 4-5 against Wake Forest, but he is 3-1 against them at home. The Demon Deacons have won 4 of the last 5 against the Wolfpack.
