Doeren Says Devin Carter is Entering NFL Draft, Carter Tweets Otherwise

Published

At a press conference today, NC State head coach Dave Doeren said that Redshirt Junior Devin Carter would be entering the NFL Draft, and wouldn’t be participating in the bowl game against Maryland. Carter has one year of eligibility remaining.

“Devin Carter is the only player that was playing that won’t play in the bowl game. He has decided to declare for the NFL and do that, so we’re wishing him well.” (GoPack)

Shortly thereafter, Carter took to Twitter to claim otherwise.

This situation is odd to say the least. It’s obvious that Doeren and Carter are definitely not on the same page.

From what I’m hearing he’s no longer with the team.

Is Carter upset that Doeren announced this before he did? Is Carter actually transferring?

We will have to wait and see how this fleshes out.

Carter finished the year with 25 receptions for 406 yards and 2 touchdowns this year.

Timing is sometimes the issue. He may be going through the process of solidifying who his agent will be, and just wants to keep the bloodhounds off his back while that takes place. OR maybe he wants to see if there are any crazy NIL offers before officially declaring.

The good news I read is that pretty much everyone will play in the bowl game.
