According to FootallScoop, Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson is signing a new 3-year contract with NC State.

Here’s the details of FootballScoop’s reporting:

Sources tell FootballScoop Dave Doeren has locked defensive coordinator Tony Gibson down with a new three year contract, making Gibson the highest paid defensive coordinator in the ACC. Sources tell FootballScoop the three year deal will average just under $1.3 million per year. Gibson’s defense was stingy, leading the conference in points allowed per game. (FootballScoop)

This is HUGE.

Making Gibson the highest paid Defensive Coordinator in the ACC is making a STATEMENT, and Gibson deserves it.

Gibson’s Wolfpack D ranked 1st in the ACC in Scoring Defense, 3rd Total Defense, 3rd in Rushing Defense, 1st in Defensive Passing Efficiency, and 1st in interceptions.

Gibson was rumored to be the odds on favorite to become the head coach at West Virginia if they fired their head coach Neal Brown, which they did not.

Doeren has been an advocate of taking care of his staff financially, and he’s putting his money where his mouth is once again. This is the type of move that keeps current players on your roster, and attracts others to join.
