NC State Has the Most Regular Season Wins Since 1987-88

Look…NC State might have fallen out of the rankings this week. They might be ranked 5th in the ACC standings.

Don’t let that keep you from seeing that NC State’s Men’s Basketball team is having their best regular season in 35 years!

The Wolfpack picked up their 22nd regular season win last night, defeating Wake Forest 90-74. That’s the most regular season wins since the 1987-88 season, when the Wolfpack entered the ACC Tournament with a 23-6 record. That was a squad coached by Jimmy V, and led on the court by Chucky Brown, Charles Shackleford, Rodney Monroe, Vinny Del Negro, and Chris Corchiani.

This years squad has the chance to tie their 23 wins against Clemson on Saturday at home.

Also, after last night, NC State has now won 8 consecutive home ACC games, marking the longest streak in a single season in school history. After losing their first ACC game at home to Pitt, the Wolfpack haven’t lost at home since then, boasting an 8-1 record at home.

Now I understand that the 1972-73 and 1973-74 teams both went undefeated at home in ACC play, but they only played 6 home conference games.

The last time NC State boasted an 8-1 ACC record at home was in 2012-13.

My point in all of this is to help everyone understand that they are watching something truly special taking place before their eyes with this NC State team.

What Coach Keatts has done to turn things around after NC State went 11-21 last year, and 4-16 in ACC play, is truly remarkable.
