NC State Basketball
Will NC State go dancing? Selection Sunday is just hours away. Here is where the experts think the Pack ends up.
For a minute there I thought this would be the first Selection Sunday where NC State fans wouldn’t have to sweat it out. I should’ve known better.
We’re back to the bubble, a place that NC State and its fans know very well. It seems there is never a season where the Pack is a lock, and even with a run of 8 wins in 9 games during ACC play, the Pack is yet again in the same situation.
That said. Let’s take a look at where the experts project NC State lands.
Since the last time we talked, NC State has slipped in ESPN’s Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology, to the “Last Four In” group.
With no bid stealers left in the mix today, this is likely the final prediction from ESPN.
Another big bracket projection is “The Bracket Matrix”, which also has NC State as the last 4 in.
The final update to the matrix before the selection show has been posted.
Last 4 in: Rutgers, NC State, Arizona State, Pittsburgh
First 6 out: Nevada, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, Clemson, UNC, Wisconsinhttps://t.co/Onu9JBucfV— Bracket Project (@bracketproject) March 12, 2023
Fox College Hoops has State in.

T3 Bracketology has NC State in.
BUBBLE impact effecting the below:
-NC State bubble ➡️ “Should be in”
-Pitt, remains in, among last 6 in
-UNC needs at least 2 more wins. Not in w/ win tomorrow
-OKST is IN w/ win over Texas tomorrow. Remains in discussion regardless
-Wisconsin is OUT after L to OSU. Likely NIT https://t.co/MXvjw9lQNQ— T3 Bracketology™️🏀 (@TBracketology) March 9, 2023
Wall Street Journal actually has State in without having to be involved in a play-in game.
Updating the @PostSports field of 68 to account for
1. A short string of changes tied to Princeton winning the Ivy League (Furman and Iona tweaked as well).
2. Switching the regionals for Houston and Purdue.https://t.co/8T4uDI05Dm

The only peole that have NC State out are smaller predictors that we’ve never heard of. Like this guy, Buzz King.
My final #Fieldof68Projection for the 2022-23 season is @GopherHole. Read the bubble scribblings, too. Enjoy!
Last 4 In: Rutgers, Pitt, Clemson, (last team in) Providence
First 4 Out: (first team out) NC State, Nevada, Oklahoma State, Wisconsinhttps://t.co/E4Fp9iRtaA

If you’re wondering why so many people have State in, it’s because they have wins over Duke and Miami, while really not having a bad loss. They also have the 3rd highest NET of the bubble teams (and NET is supposedly a major metric to the committee.)
NET rankings for the main 8 teams on the bubble:
Nevada: 37
Okla St: 43
NC State: 45
Miss State: 49
Clemson: 57
Arizona State: 66
Pittsburgh: 67
Vanderbilt: 79— Pokes Forever 🏀 (@PokesForever247) March 12, 2023
At this point, the consensus is that NC State is in. There really isn’t a good argument for keeping them out. The only argument that seems to be out there is that Clemson should be in instead of them. The only thing Clemson has over NC State is that they won 3 times head to head. However, head to head is a metric that they have said is not considered.
Tune in after Selection Sunday for a full breakdown of NC State’s Big Dance opponent….or an absolute meltdown and takedown of the NCAA Tournament committee if we’re left out.
Pitt made a play in game. That means Clemson likely out
11 seed vs Creighton! I’m good with that.
Game is in Denver, need to get there and acclimate to elevation,
Congrats to team and KK for making it.
I’ll be happy with anything above the play in game.
I don’t have any faith in Lunardi. He’s just the loudest voice with the most coverage, and seems to keep contradicting himself.
The world wants to see Smith, Joiner, and DJ in the tourney!
