Will Brennan Armstrong Break NC State’s Record for Rushing Yards by a QB?

NC State fans will likely see something in 2023 they haven’t seen in quite some time: a legitimate running Quarterback.

The last time the Wolfpack had a legitimate dual threat Quarterback was when Jacoby Brissett rushed for 529 yards in 2014, which is the school record for rushing yards by a Quarterback in a single season.

In 2021, Devin Leary rushed for -73 yards.

The most yards Ryan Finley ever rushed for in a single season was 194 yards in 2017.

In contrast, over the past three seasons, Brennan Armstrong rushed for 1,174 yards and 20 touchdowns in 30 games.

In 2020, he rushed for 552 yards, which if replicated, would be the most ever in a single season by a Wolfpack Quarterback.

Robert Anae, NC State’s new Offensive Coordinator, loves to utilize the legs of the Quarterback. Last year, at Syracuse, Anae called the shots which led Quarterback Garrett Shrader to rush for 444 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Prior to Armstrong taking the reins at UVA, Anae was the Offensive Coordinator that designed the offense that led to Bryce Perkins rushing for 1,692 yards and 20 touchdowns in two seasons. Perkins almost crossed the 1,000 yard barrier in 2018, rushing for 923 yards.

A mobile Armstrong would be a welcome surprise in 2023, considering that the Wolfpack ranked 12th in the ACC in 2022, averaging 113.8 yards per contest.
