Trea Turner Uses Billboards to Thank Phillies Fans After Standing Ovation

It hasn’t been a good year for former NC State All-American Shortstop Trea Turner.

He signed an 11-year $300 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies prior to the season, with all $300 million guaranteed.

It’s his first year in Philly, and expectations were high, and he hasn’t met them.

Currently his batting average is .238. His batting average in 6.5 seasons in Washington was .300, and .307 in 1.5 years with the Dodgers. He’s projected to finish the year with 56 RBI’s…he had 100 last year in Los Angeles. He’s projected to strike out 169 times, which is almost 40 more than last year.

On Friday, Turner was surprised by the Philly fans giving him a standing ovation for no reason whatsoever.

The next night, Turner gave the Philly Faithful something to cheer about.

That same evening he almost went deep again, giving the crowd even more to cheer about.

Turner, blown away by the support, took over billboards across the city with the following message.

“I feel like when you’re younger, you don’t think about things like that,” Turner said. “You’re just kind of living the dream or trying to play baseball and whatnot. As you get older, you start to see what’s important. I’d never done anything to that magnitude.” (ESPN)

Classy move by Philly, and classy move by Turner.
