What Dave Doeren had to Say About NC State’s Opponent: UCONN

NC State head coach Dave Doeren met with the media at the end of last week for his Press Conference before the season opener against UCONN this Thursday. Here’s what he had to say about the Huskies.

• One of the most improved teams last year.
• We played them early in the season. They had a pretty stacked schedule early, and didn’t do well.
• Coach Mora’s team got better and better and better.
• They ended up getting hot. Beating Boston College. Beating Liberty. Qualifying for a bowl game.
• A lot of respect for Jim Mora as a head coach. His upbringing in the NFL with his father, and what he did coaching collegiately prior to UCONN.
  • He’s done a really good job.
• They have a lot of players back.
• Both of their Running Backs are productive on film. Both of those guys are really good players for them.
  • They are definitely a team that wants to run the football.
• Their Offensive Line returns three of their starters, really four, if you look at the rotation they had at times.
• They have a Quarterback similar to us that transferred in from Maine with their Offensive Coordinator.
• Offensively they do a lot of formations, a lot of motions, a lot of eye candy and misdirection.
• We’ll have to be very disciplined on defense…great eye discipline with all the different movements that happen.
• On defense they have 10 starters back.
  • Really impressive front four. 2 three-year starters.
  • Their ends are long guys…6’4″ and 6’6″. They’re heavy.
  • Inside…297 and 306.
  • Nose Tackle #97 is a very active player. I enjoy watching him play.
• Their Middle Linebacker is a returning captain.
• Their Safeties are both returning starters.
• Both Cornerbacks have played a ton of football for them.
• We get a team that’s going to be a lot different than the team we played a year ago.
• It’s going to be a great opportunity to go on the road.
• It’s been really hot down here, so we look forward to playing up there in 50 degree weather. Should be a nice break for our guys.
