NC State DC Tony Gibson Ranked 13th on The Athletic’s Asst. Coaches to Watch

Bruce Feldman of the The Athletic released his Top-30 College Football Assistant Coaches to Watch, and NC State Defensive Coordinator Tony Gibson was ranked 13th.

13. Tony Gibson, NC State DC

Another coach who would be a solid candidate at WVU if that job comes open, the 50-year-old Gibson keeps cranking out salty defenses in Raleigh, with the Wolfpack ranking in the top four in the ACC in yards per play allowed in each of the past three seasons. At WVU, Gibson gave the Mountaineers a defensive identity and made them formidable when Dana Holgorsen was lighting up scoreboards. (TheAthletic)

In 2022, Gibson’s Wolfpack D ranked 1st in the ACC in Scoring Defense, 3rd Total Defense, 3rd in Rushing Defense, 1st in Defensive Passing Efficiency, and 1st in interceptions.

Back in December, NC State signed Gibson to a new 3-year deal that made him the highest paid Defensive Coordinator in the ACC, netting $1.3 million annually.
