NC State RB Jordan Houston Opts to Redshirt Remainder of the Season

Published

According to the NC State Football Twitter account, Running Back Jordan Houston has opted to redshirt this season, and will wrap up his academics by the end of the Fall semester and graduate. Since Houston has only played in three games in 2023, he has the ability to redshirt this season, giving him the ability to transfer and play out his final year of eligibility elsewhere in 2024.

Sophomore Michael Allen is primed to move into the starting role with Houston exiting.

There is no denying this situation is wonky. So many questions.

You would expect that a decision like this could have been made prior to the season, but maybe Houston didn’t fully know what his usage rate would look like until the actually started playing games.

Through three games, Quarterback Brennan Armstrong leads NC State in rush attempts (37) and rushing yards (161). Out of all the running backs, Houston leads the group with 25 carries, but they have decreased each week (13, 7 & 5). Throw in the fact that Delbert Mimms III has seemingly secured the short yardage and goal line role, and things might look very different than what Houston was expecting.

There is no denying that the exodus of Houston will affect the depth of the running back room.

We wish him the best.
