UNC Holds the Edge in the Series Historically…NC State Holds the Edge this Century

NC State and UNC started their football series all the way back in 1894, and to be quite honest, the Tar Heels hold the advantage in the overall series. These two schools have faced one another 112 times, and the Tar Heels have won 60.7% of them.

Overall Series: 38-68-6
Home: 17-31-4
Away: 21-37-2

NC State has been, slowly but surely, trying to get this series closer to even over the past 23 years. Since Y2K, the Wolfpack have flipped the script on the Tar Heels, winning 60.8% of the games since 2000.

Dave Doeren is 6-4 against NC State’s rival, Oddly enough, the Wolfpack is 2-3 against the Heels at home, and 4-1 in Chapel Hill. Mack Brown is 7-9 against NC State as a head coach, and 7-7 as UNC’s head coach. Brown also lost to the Wolfpack as the head coach of Texas and Appalachian State.

The Wolfpack are currently on a 2-game winning streak against the Tar Heels, which includes a 34-30 win in Carter-Finley in 2021.
