NC State is Overdue for a 10-Win Season

NC State is overdue for a 10-win season in football.

The football program started in 1892, and the 2002 squad is the only Wolfpack team to ever win 10+ games, going 11-3. That team beat Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl, and finished the year ranked 12th in the AP Poll.

NC State has been on the cusp of 10 wins over and over again, compiling fourteen 9-win seasons. Four of those have been under Dave Doeren (No other Wolfpack coach has more than two 9-win seasons).

Wolfpack nation won’t soon forget that they were robbed of the opportunity of finishing with 10 wins in 2021, when UCLA bailed out of the Holiday Bowl. The Wolfpack were ranked 18th, and they were facing an unranked Bruins team. NC State was a 2-point favorite.

According to Joe Giglio’s Yellow Pad research, NC State’s 20-year drought without a 10-win season, is the 2nd longest drought in the ACC, trailing only Virginia (33 years).

Sadly, NC State is one of three schools to only have one 10-win season, alongside Virginia and Duke.

It’s time to get the monkey off the back of the NC State football program.
