PI EXCLUSIVE: Missouri OL Transfer Valen Erickson Breaks Down His Commitment to NC State

On December 9th, Missouri Transfer Offensive Lineman Valen Erickson (6’6″/313) verbally committed to NC State while on an Official Visit in Raleigh.

Why did you shut down your recruitment, and commit to NC State?

First off my O-Line Coach in high school was RJ Mattes, a 4 year starter at LT for the Pack a while back. So that connection was big. I had an idea that NC State would be a great fit for me. But I still scheduled a couple other visits to make sure this is the best decision. After the visit I knew this place was going to be my new home and time to shut down the portal recruitment.

How does Coach 2J plan on using you in his O-Line? How influential was he in your decision?

Coach 2j is great! Can’t wait to learn from him! I’m a straight up Tackle. Spring ball will tell though. I have big expectations going into this season, I’ll just say that.

What was your favorite parts of your Official Visit?

Best part of the visit was the way coach Dorean runs this place! They are straight business and want to win! Everyone was great, and made it feel like family. Me and my family are super outgoing, so it was a great trip! One to remember for sure!!

What do you think of NC State’s momentum in the Transfer Portal?

So excited for the dudes we’re bringing in. Pumped about Zeke and Grayson. They are some great dudes that played a lot of ball! Everyone that’s part of the Pack has huge expectations for next season!
