Washington Commanders Head Coach Ron Rivera announced this morning that former NC State Quarterback Jacoby Brissett will be their starter this week against the 49ers.

Brissett signed a 1-year deal worth $8 million this offseason, to be Howell’s backup.

Rivera explained that due to Sam Howell’s recent struggles, he thought this was a good opportunity for him to take a break. He doubled down that this decision was being made with the future development of Howell in mind.

The past two weeks, Brissett has come off of the bench to spell the former UNC Quarterback after he struggled. The results have been fantastic. In those two appearances, Brissett has completed 18 of 23 for 224 yards and 3 touchdowns, adding up to a QB Rating of 146.8.

Brissett isn’t new to being a starter in the NFL. He has been a starter in 48 of the 79 games he has played in.

Congrats Jacoby!
