The UNC System is 1 Step Closer to Holding the Power When it Comes to NC State & UNC Leaving the ACC

This past Wednesday, the University Governance committee voted in approval of a new proposal that would allow the Board of Governors to stop schools like NC State and UNC from leaving the ACC, putting the power in their hands, and not in the hands of the chancellor’s of the individual schools.

Under the proposed changes to the intercollegiate athletics section of the UNC System’s policy manual, chancellors must give the UNC System president “advance notice prior to executing any agreement which would result in the constituent institution’s transfer, removal, or joining of an athletic conference association. The notice to the president shall include for the president’s approval or disapproval a financial plan related to the proposed action.”

If the president approves the financial plan, the board would then get a chance to weigh in and could vote no, stopping any conference affiliation change.

“If the Board of Governors votes down the financial plan, the chancellor may not proceed with the proposed action unless the chancellor presents a new financial plan for the president’s approval or disapproval,” according to the proposal. (WRAL)

Despite the approving vote on Wednesday, the proposal is not going into effect yet, because it needs to be approved by the Board of Governors, which is made up of 24 members. With that being said, we already know there are members of the Board that don’t want to see NC State and UNC split up.

The Board of Governors has 24 members, appointed by the NC House and Senate to staggered four-year terms. Both chambers have been controlled by Republicans since 2011. The Republican leaders of each chambers told WRAL in August that UNC and NC State should remain conference foes. (WRAL)

Remember when Republicans wanted to limit government power.Neither do they.

Now NC Republicans want politicians and their lackeys to run the university curriculum and the athletic department.

The same hypocrites who now want government to insert itself into women’s sports.
