Gymnastics Claims ACC Regular Season Crown in 197.575-196.000 Win Over Clemson

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State gymnastics won the first regular season championship in ACC history on Saturday afternoon, taking a record-breaking 197.575-196.600 decision over No. 22 Clemson.

The evening was highlighted by Emily Shepard firing the highest all-around score in program history, with 39.750 additionally marking the highest all-around total ever produced by a member from an ACC school. Shepard, who won her fourth all-around crown of the 2024 season, also became the first gymnast in NC State history to tab a 9.9+ on each event in the same meet.

The Pack posted season-high scores on vault, bars and beam with 197.575 ranking second all-time amongst NC State’s team totals in 44 years of gymnastics.

Vault (49.275)

The contest started on vault for the Wolfpack, with NC State posting a 49.250 in its first rotation. Shepard led the way for the Pack with a 9.900 which resulted in a tie for second place in the event with Clemson’s lone all-arounder Rebecca Wells.

The Wolfpack registered four scores of 9.850 or higher, with Chloe Negrete and Krista Zultevicz each posting a 9.850 while freshman Ashley Knight tabbed a 9.875. NC State’s scoring effort was completed by a 9.775 from Maddie Hall, who competed on vault for the first time since the Pack’s season opener at Georgia.

Bars (49.450)

Shepard once again led the way for the Wolfpack on bars, posting a personal-best 9.975 while Katie Harper fired the first 9.900 of her career.  The Pack only counted scores of 9.850 or higher in its second rotation, including a career-high 9.875 from leadoff Kailee Adomaites.

Madeline Reid and Alexis Ortega each tabbed a 9.850 for the Wolfpack to round out the team’s five counted scores.

Beam (49.375)

The momentum continued for NC State on beam, with 49.375 marking the Pack’s second-best score on the event this season.

Shepard led the way once again for NC State, firing a 9.950 which was followed by a 9.900 from Negrete. Meg Adler tabbed a career-best 9.850 from the leadoff position for the Pack, while Harper and Ortega finished their nights with a 9.850 and a 9.825, respectively.

Floor (49.500)

NC State concluded the night on floor with three scores of 9.9+, led by a 9.950 from Negrete in the anchor position. Knight registered the first 9.900 of her career for the Wolfpack, while Shepard completed her evening with a 9.925. Hall led off for the Wolfpack by setting the tone with a 9.875, while Zultevicz’s 9.850 rounded out the Pack’s record-breaking night.

NC State wraps up its ACC slate on Sunday, Feb. 25, as the Pack travels to Pitt for a 4 p.m. dual meet against the Panthers.

Next Sunday’s matinee is set to be televised on the ACC Network, marking the fourth and final nationally broadcasted meet of NC State’s regular season, the most of any ACC school.
