NC State’s Payton Wilson Runs the Fastest 40 by a Linebacker at the NFL Combine
Former NC State Linebacker Payton Wilson blew the competition away today, running the fastest 40-yard dash time of any Linebacker at the 2024 NFL Combine.
Wilson mentioned that he would be satisfied with a 4.5 at the Senior Bowl, so you would expect he would be satisfied with a 4.43.

Since Wilson was the last man to run, he didn’t need to necessarily run again, after solidifying himself as the fastest Linebacker at the Combine, but it’s hard to satisfy a competitor like Wilson.
Wilson opted to run a second 40-yard dash, running a 4.49, proving his elite speed wasn’t a fluke. His face was visibly frustrated after running a 4.49. It’s hard to find a player with the fire Wilson possesses.

Can he play safety? His body type leans more to safety as the Smith kid from Knoxville did at Notre Dame and Minnesota Vikings.
