Tomorrow’s Elite Eight Game Will be NC State’s 3rd NCAAT Game Against an ACC Opponent

NC State will play Duke, an ACC opponent, in the Elite Eight tomorrow night, but it won’t be the first time the Wolfpack has played a conference foe in the Big Dance.

This will mark the third time NC State has played against an ACC team in the NCAA Tournament.

Most recently, in 2015 the 8th seeded Wolfpack lost to #4 seed Louisville 65-75 in the Sweet 16.

The first time NC State played an ACC opponent in the Big Dance was in 1983, the year this current miracle run shares many parallels with, with this being yet another.

UVA was a #1 seed, and NC State was a #6 seed, and the game was in the Elite Eight. The Wolfpack squeaked out a 63-62 win over the Cavaliers, with Ralph Sampson missing a shot at the buzzer. After losing both games against Virginia in the regular season, NC State defeated them in the ACC Tournament on the way to a Conference Championship, and in the Elite Eight, on the way to a Final Four, and ultimately a National Championship.
